Guatemala’s national newspaper, Prensa Libre publishes story following flight with LightHawk’s volunteer pilot, George Simchuk.

&ldquot;I spent a week in Flores, Guatemala, flying for a number of our partners concerned
with the illegal destruction of forested areas to the North and West of Flores. This
illegal activity’s purpose was to render the forested land suitable for grazing and
the production of marijuana. The fires from this activity was producing a thick pall
of smoke over hundreds of square miles; rising to over 8,000 ft.&rdquot;
&ldquot;[The Prensa Libre journalists’] mission was to record the current destruction of forested land, and forested land which had been destroyed in previous years. …the photographer was able to take a multitude of revealing photos for their planned publication. It was their intention to publish an account of this work in their national newspaper to motivate responsible government agencies into taking appropriate action to stop this destruction. &rdquot;
